In-person commencement ceremonies return to Elgin Community College this spring – Shaw Local

Elgin Community College will hold in-person commencement ceremonies for the Spring 2022 class.

According to a statement from the college, three ceremonies will be held beginning with the High School Equivalency Ceremony on Friday, May 20 at 7 p.m. The University Transfer Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, May 21 at 10 a.m., followed by the Graduation Ceremony at 2 p.m. The ceremonies will also be streamed on youtube.com/ElginSpartans. Students are assigned to the graduation ceremony based on degrees earned, the statement said.

Students Sheila Aragon and Francisco Chagoya will speak at 7 p.m. at the high school equivalency ceremony.

Student speaker Dylan Mejdrich will speak at the University Transfer Ceremony, which honors students who have received Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Fine Arts-Visual Arts, D associate in fine arts-music, associate in engineering sciences or associate in liberal studies diplomas. An honorary degree will also be awarded to former District 509 board member Jeffery Meyers.

The Career and Technical Programs Ceremony will celebrate students who have earned Associate of Applied Science degrees, Professional Specialist certificates, and Basic Professional Specialist certificates with student speaker Evelin Gonzalez.

ECC President David Sam will deliver the keynote address at both ceremonies, and Board Chair Jennifer Racow will also deliver remarks at the ceremonies.
