Guelph Arts Council announces deadline for Jane Graham Memorial Prize



In memory of Guelph visual artist Jane Graham, the Guelph Arts Council offers an annual award to one or more local visual artists to pursue professional development opportunities. The 2021 application deadline is Monday, October 18. Any visual artist residing and actively practicing in Guelph or Wellington County is encouraged to apply for opportunities that will continue after January 1, 2022. Application is posted here. Prices will be announced in late fall 2021.

Jane Graham was a highly regarded and respected visual artist who lived and worked in the Guelph area for many years before her untimely death in early 2005. Working closely with the Graham family, later that same year the Guelph Arts Council has created a fund with donations made. in memory of Jeanne. The fund is managed by the Guelph Community Foundation. Along with the annual income from the fund, the Guelph Arts Council is offering this award to support artists who wish to pursue opportunities that will contribute to personal artistic growth.

Each year, the Guelph Arts Council appoints a jury made up of representatives from the local visual arts community, alumni, the Guelph Arts Council and the Graham family. The jury examines the applications and selects the winner (s).

Over the years, the winners have included textile artists, illustrators, painters and a potter, an audiovisual collective, a blacksmith artist, an engraver, a bead artist, an art quilter, a filmmaker and a photographer. All of these people indicated that the award has helped them take their artistic work to the next level.
