Fellowship of Catholic Artists Celebrates Shrine’s Anniversary

GRETNA (SNR) – The Community of Catholic Artists will present “Life is Beautiful Art Show & Performing Arts” throughout October to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Shrine of the Holy Family in Gretna and to highlight the importance of the arts in daily life.

The Holy Family Shrine is located at 23132 Phlug Rd., Gretna, and is open Sunday 12-5 p.m. and Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Fellowship of Catholic Artists is a group of visual artists and performers who meet monthly at the Sanctuary or at other events to immerse themselves in the arts and travel the region immersing themselves in the arts. The purpose of the group is to network and increase the presentation of God’s gifts given to the artist through the arts. Membership includes artists from Omaha, Lincoln, Lindsey and Palmyra and is open to any Catholic artist. Father Taylor Leffler of the Archdiocese of Omaha is the group’s chaplain.

The visual arts of over 15 artists will be on display and for sale at the shrine throughout October, with 10% of proceeds going to the shrine. Every Sunday in October there will be a matinee in the chapel from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

A live performance sampler will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 1 featuring poetry, fiction, drama, and music written and performed by members of the Fellowship of Catholic Artists. Light refreshments will be served after the show.

The opening reception will be held on Sunday, October 2 from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. with light refreshments and wine.
